Stronger Than Before: A Missouri Church Rebuilds with Fortify Building Solutions Products After Devastating Fire
In a matter of hours, flames erased what 50 years had built.
A fire tore through a church in Fairdealing, Missouri, reducing the sanctuary to rubble and leaving an entire community in shock. What had been a place of worship, gathering and shared history was suddenly gone.
Despite the destruction, something unexpected remained. A small shed stood untouched by the fire. On the it’s wall was a painting of Jesus, preserved as if nothing had happened. For many in this Missouri community, it became a symbol. Looking beyond what was lost and seeing what still stood and what was worth rebuilding.
A Community Rallies After the Fire
Rebuilding the church meant reestablishing a place the community depended on.
When the congregation reviewed initial bids, traditional stick-frame construction costs came in too high to afford. Jon, a welder from Sparks Welding & Fabrication and church member, decided to take on the project himself, determined to rebuild the church affordably and the right way.
“I was very proud to see that when somebody is in need, we all come together,” Jon said. “We could not have rebuilt if the community did not come together.”
Local businesses, neighboring churches and individual donors rallied behind the project, turning what seemed impossible into a shared mission.
Choosing Metal for Durability
From the beginning, Jon knew the new church needed to be stronger than what was lost.
In Missouri, where extreme weather is a constant concern, durability matters. A metal building offered exactly what the project required: strength, speed and long-term reliability.
Choosing Fortify Building Solutions was equally straightforward. Although it was Jon's first time working with the brand, the local connection to Fortify's Scott City branch mattered. "As a community, we wanted to keep the work local," he explained. "We were building our church, but we also wanted to support local businesses around us."
Fortify's team worked closely with Jon from the start. Their representative visited the site, assessed what the church needed and helped find the best solution, making a first-time customer feel like a long-term partner.

Built Better for What Comes Next
Once construction began, progress moved quickly. The team was able to add features that the church had never had before, including covered carports and enhanced interior features like a dedicated sound booth. The finished building features durable 26-gauge PBR wall and roof panels, with Pearl Gray wall panels complemented by a Charcoal Gray roof and matching Pearl Gray and Charcoal Gray trim accents.
The proof of the product came not long after the building was completed, when a tornado moved through the area. Homes were damaged. Trees were uprooted. HVAC units behind the church were blown off their mounts and a large dumpster was overturned.
The church itself was untouched.
“The metal structure takes wind better,” Jon said. “Based on my experience, the metal structure performed very well under the storm conditions.”

A Stronger Church, A Growing Community
When the rebuilt church opened its doors, the response was overwhelming. Today, the church regularly welcomes nearly 100 people each Sunday, a testament to both the rebuild and the renewed energy of the congregation.
For Jon, the project represented more than a construction job well done. As a business owner, he's proud he could help make the rebuild affordable. As a church member, he's proud of what the community proved about itself.
“I was happy that I was able to help the community and get the church built,” he said.
The result was a renewed sense of community, built on resilience, generosity and shared commitment.
